Liposuction
Liposuction is a cosmetic procedure that removes fat from areas around the body such as the abdomen and buttocks.
Liposuction removes deposits of fat within the body which in turn reshapes the body’s contours. A ‘Cannula’ (a narrow surgical tube), is inserted through the skin into the fat layer that lies deep under it. The cannula is then pushed and pulled through this fatty layer, breaking up the fat cells. These cells are then suctioned out via a vacuum pump.
Liposuction is an invasive surgical procedure that requires a degree of downtime afterwards and many patients elect to remain in hospital for a few days after. There can be swelling and bruising for a few weeks following liposuction, depending on the severity of the procedure as well. An elastic support is required for a few weeks as well and exercise should be avoided for around 2 weeks (longer for heavy exercise).
A better alternative to standard liposuction is Vaser LipoSelection.
Vaser LipoSelection
Vaser LipoSelection is generally regarded as the gentlest and most powerful form of liposuction available and gives outstanding results.
Ultrasound energy emitted by the VASER system breaks up fat on contact while leaving surrounding tissues relatively intact, the broken down fat is then removed via gentle suction. A saline solution is administered during the procedure which shrinks the blood vessels and reduces bleeding in the treated area. An anaesthetic is administered along with this to ease pain or discomfort.
As Vaser Lipo is more tissue selective than standard liposuction, the healing times are reduced as is discomfort and pain during the process and healing time after. Typical recovery time is a day or two, after which you can return to work, and there is very little bruising and swelling compared to standard liposuction. Strenuous exercise should be avoided for a few weeks and light exercise is normally ok after a week or so. The number of treatments will vary depending on your personal needs.
